Seva Study System

It’s not how much we give but how much love we put into giving!

Mind Body Balance’s Seva Program (seva is the act of volunteering selfless service (so basically service with selfless intention)) provides students the opportunity to practice Karma, the devotional action, through work study. Participants in the Seva Program clean the studio; assist in the setting up and closing of the movement rooms, some front desk responsibilities and support special events. We require you to serve minimum 4 hours per week. Seva staff must demonstrate respect, reliability and accountability. During the period of service, all group classes attended by the student are reduced up to 100%. The commitment requires attendance of a minimum of one class per week, at events requiring support, and one deep cleaning per month. The program typically lasts for one term of 6 months.

The intention of this program is for the participants/ student to learn the power of Karma through selfless service (Seva) and to make group movement classes available for all sincere and committed students looking to deepen their spiritual practice and learn how to make mind body movement a way of life.

Mind Body Balance’s Seva Program also referred to as SEVA or selfless, is a truly transformative process. The intention is to offer your talents in love and gratitude while deepening your mind body practice and knowledge. You will learn that service offered in this spirit becomes meditation in motion, opens the heart and connects you to the inner Guru while enhancing your life.

How it works: This work-study program asks that you contribute towards your movement (whatever you can donate) and agree to provide assistance for the studio. We have found that students who are willing to contribute some contribution financially toward the studio, time and effort are more committed and dependable. Our Seva staff is an important part of the operation of Mind Body Balance studio. They keep the studio clean, organized and running smoothly. Our Seva find the work of the community at Mind Body Balance satisfying and rewarding part of their Sadhana (spiritual practice). Work Study/ Seva at Mind Body Balance is a way to deepen your commitment to yourself and your spiritual growth – as you serve others.  You will receive so much through this process.

What is expected? Your commitment to:

Typical Duties Include:

Other duties and projects will arise and we will attempt to match them with your skills and abilities.

If you would like to become more involved in the studio please send the Mind Body Balance Team an email at info@mindbodybalance.com with Seva Study in the subject along with your unique skill set and a short 200 word or less essay answering these two questions. 1) Why are you ready to do Seva/ Sadhana work at this point in your mindful journey? 2) What are your unique skills and interests that embody Mind Body Balance’s mission and values? Once we receive your email, the Mind Body Balance Team will review your request within 4 weeks, you will receive an email back with any questions, and you will be invited to the next team meeting and then if the meeting goes well you will be welcomed into the program along with your personal plan of Seva. Bi-monthly review of work performed will happen as well.

“The benefit of service is not in getting what you want, but in consciously learning to let go of your selfishness. As you experience letting go, you begin to see that receiving happens for you in a very strange way. Externally you may not receive anything, yet internally you begin to receive the essence of all you really want, which are peace, comfort and fulfillment. Externally you may have even lost a great deal, but internally you receive the results of success as you experience satisfaction, contentment and joy. Service is very direct and simple way to learn selflessness. The basic idea behind service is that you give without asking for a return. Such service is the antidote to conflict, the antidote to separateness, loneliness, and fear of the other.” Gurudev (Yogi Amrit Desai)
